Quadriceps Tendenopathy

Overuse can cause pain and inflammation of the quadriceps tendon as it inserts into the top of the kneecap. Over time this can lead to degeneration of the tendon.

Symptoms:

  • Pain that develops gradually at the front of the knee just above the knee cap.

  • Ache or stiffness in the knee that increases with rest following activities requiring strong or repetitive contraction of the quadriceps muscle that include running, jumping, hopping, squatting or kicking.

  • Occasionally, local swelling and a feeling of knee weakness
